About Me

I’m not good at summarizing who I am in a paragraph, but here goes. I’m a senior American Studies major at Barnard College of Columbia University, graduating an entire year early. I’ll only be 20 by the time I receive my B.A. and I really don’t know what I want to do with the rest of my life. My interests primarily lie in education, women’s studies, history, journalism, and new media, but truth be told, I secretly want to be the next American Idol (or maybe Amber Mac!). I like making lists so here’s one about myself:

1. I grew up on Long Island, but I was born in California and lived in the Philippines for four years.

2. I’m left handed.

3. I fear playing World of WarCraft because I just might never see the light of day again.

4. If I could make a living doing anything, it would be travelling. I’ve been to Amsterdam, England, France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, and Germany, and this summer I’ll be visiting Japan and China.

5. I average about 4 hours of sleep a night. I’ve never been diagnosed with insomnia, but I’m constantly awake until 5 AM EST.

6. I could never date anyone who didn’t love New York City as much as I do.

7. The glass is always half full.

8. I’ve watched a Justin Timberlake concert standing next to Kanye West and P. Diddy.

9. Celebrity gossip and mindless MTV shows are my guilty pleasure.

10. I’ve been playing the piano since I was five.

11. I sing in an a cappella group called Bacchantae. Youtube us.

12. My boyfriend got me hooked on TWiT. Podcasts are totally sexy.  So is Leo Laporte’s voice.

13. My taste in music is pretty ecclectic. I’m not afraid to put NSYNC, the Strokes, Genesis, Journey, Guster, John Mayer, Regina Spektor, Joni Mitchell, Madonna, and Earth, Wind & Fire on the same playlist.

14. I was raised a Catholic, but I don’t go to Church.

15. I didn’t kiss a boy until my freshman year in college. I was 18.

16. I’ve been known to laugh obnoxiously loud.

17. Sundays in the fall are reserved for watching the NY Giants. That’s right, I’m a girl and I watch sports (I’m a yankees fan too).

18. I moderate an incredibly popular forum devoted to a teen heartthrob.

19. I love beaches, but I prefer swimming in pools.

20. Men with foreign accents, exotic palettes, and an appreciation for aesthetic things are sexy.

21. Every guy I’ve ever been attracted to has done theatre in some capacity.

22. I write about sex. (sometimes)

23. Nothing makes me happier than spending a Saturday afternoon at Barnes & Noble sipping on Starbucks (pumpkin and vanilla soy lattes in the fall and winter, black tea lemonades and frapuccinos in the spring and summer).

24. There was a time in my life when I thought I would be the first female president of the United States.

25. I think myspace is garbage compared to facebook (I’m on both).

26. I’ve been thinking about buying a MacBook Pro, but I’m scared to make the switch.

27. My birthday is June 27th.

28. When I was 11, I watched the movie Titanic 7 times in the theatres.

29. I met my first/current boyfriend online. It was hard admitting that at first, but I’m used to it.

30. My family means the world to me.

31. I invest a lot in the relationships I have with people, but once you’re on my bad side, that’s it for you.

32. My affinity for pretty drinks, high heels, dresses and the occasional spa pampering might make me come across as high maintenance, but I’m not.

33. I could never go on a successful Atkins diet. My Italian and Filipino heritage just won’t allow it (too much pasta and rice).

34. When a homeless person solicits money from me, I always say, “I’m sorry.” I really am.

35. I wear black a lot, not because I want to make a statement or project emo-ness. I just like the color.

36. In another life time, I want to master Final Cut Pro and be the next Thelma Schoonmaker.

37. I hate waiting at Verizon. I hate waiting for anything, period.

38. Close talkers, people who say “like” too much, obnoxiously bad singers at karaoke bars, know-it-alls, and people who have no regard for others aggravate me.

39. I have a brother who is almost 6 years younger than me. I think he’s great.

40. I wear glasses because I have astigmatism.

45. My mom taught me how to love unselfishly, compromise, and smile regardless of how bad things are.

46. I’ll always miss my childhood best friend. We don’t talk anymore, but I think about her all the time.

47. I’ve always done well in math & science classes, but I feel much more comfortable studying English and History.

48. I post Craigslist ads just for fun because you never know what freakishly bizarre responses you’re gonna get.

49. I’ll admit, I was inspired to blog after meeting Stephanie Klein, a graduate of my alma mater. Anyone who can make a name for herself like she has gets two thumbs up in my book.

50. My favorite song right now is “Grace Kelly” by Mika. Three of my all time favorite songs are “Tiny Dancer” by Elton John, “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen, and “Such Great Heights” by the Postal Service.

57. When I get nervous or bored, I bite my nails. It’s a gross habit that I’m trying to kill.

58. I always think someone’s going to push me onto the tracks when I’m waiting for a subway. It’s as morbid thought, but ya never know.

83. My pink Razr gets the job done, but I want a sidekick. I am NOT a fast texter.
